What do you do when life spirals out of control—literally? In this powerful episode, I share the story of the day everything changed: a normal drive turned into a terrifying moment when my brakes failed, and God asked me to jump from a moving car.

What followed was nothing short of miraculous. From an encounter with Jesus in the ER to a painful journey of healing during the isolation of the pandemic, I experienced firsthand the God who walks with us through the fire.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)

This isn’t just a story of survival—it’s a call to surrender. You’ll hear how the peace of God, shalom, destroys the authority of chaos, and how you, too, are empowered to walk on the waves. If you’ve ever felt stuck in fear or unsure how to move forward, this episode will stir your faith and remind you: the Spirit of God lives in you—and He’s calling you to rise.

When the Brakes Fail: Trusting God in the Chaos

What would you do if your car sped out of control—no brakes, no way to stop, and the freeway coming fast?

That was my reality not long ago, and it changed my life forever.

A Moment of Crisis, A Voice from Heaven

It started as an ordinary trip to Target. But when I got in the car and started to drive, something was terribly wrong. The accelerator stuck. The brakes wouldn’t respond. The car was moving faster and faster toward a major intersection and a busy highway. In the panic, I cried out to Jesus.

do you trust Me? You have to jump out.

When the Holy Spirit Said, “Jump!” — You Are My Witnesses Podcast

That was the voice I heard. And against every instinct, I obeyed.

I jumped.

And lived.

A Miracle in the ER

The car ran over me. I shouldn’t be here. But I am.

I landed in the ER, bruised and broken, and something unexplainable happened—I saw Jesus.

He looked at me with the deepest love I’ve ever known. And then He winked. That wink became a personal seal over this entire experience. A glimpse into the joy of heaven right in the middle of the hospital.

The Aftermath: Pain, Isolation, and the Waiting

But even after that beautiful encounter, I woke up to a harsh reality. I was placed on suicide watch. I couldn’t go to the bathroom without supervision. The nurses weren’t just guarding my body—they thought I might be a danger to myself.

Because it was 2020, no visitors were allowed at first. My husband had no idea how I was doing for almost 48 hours. That isolation made the experience even more painful.

The doctors eventually confirmed: traumatic brain injury, concussion, broken nose, nerve damage, and whiplash. I went home with staples in my head, a walker, pain meds, and a laundry list of follow-up appointments.

I’ll never forget the first time I looked in the mirror. My swollen face. Crusted blood. Broken teeth.

“I looked like a stranger to myself.”

I couldn’t even shower on my own. Every movement brought pain. I felt trapped and abandoned. But God wasn’t done.

Evidence of Healing, One Appointment at a Time

At every doctor’s visit, I saw more evidence of Jesus’ hands holding me together. One of the biggest miracles? My leg—run over by a moving vehicle—was not broken. My ACL was sprained, and the nerve damage slowly began to heal. But I was walking.

When the neurologist reviewed my scans, he was shocked to see the bleeding in my brain had stopped—especially in light of a past blood disease diagnosis (which God had already healed years before. You can hear more about that in episode 5 of my podcast).

Even the doctors had no explanation. But I did.

“Every visit left me more in awe of what God was doing. Jesus was holding me together.”

The Lie of Comfort—and the Truth of the Kingdom

I want to pause here and speak to you, right where you are. We live in a culture that avoids pain at all costs. If it hurts, escape it. If it’s inconvenient, reject it. If it’s hard, something must be wrong. But that’s not the Kingdom way.

When we try to build lives around avoiding pain, we often end up opening the door to deeper pain—pain that touches our bodies, our souls, and our spirits. But God, in His mercy, has a better way.

Janell Kremer — You Are My Witnesses Podcast

Isaiah 43 doesn’t say if you pass through the waters—it says when. Storms are not interruptions to God’s plan; they are often how He fulfills it.

When God Says, ‘Jump’

I’ve had people tell me, “Janell, I could never do what you did. I could never jump out of a car like that.” But listen—God wasn’t speaking to my flesh. My flesh would never obey a command like that. He was speaking to my spirit. And that same Spirit lives in you.

When God calls you to step out of the boat—out of your comfort zone—He gives you both the authority and the ability to walk on the water.

Janell Kremer — You Are My Witnesses Podcast

We are witnesses, not bystanders. We are not meant to just survive storms—we are called to walk on the chaos with confidence in Jesus.

Shalom: Destroying the Authority that Binds to Chaos

Water in the Bible often represents chaos. And at creation, God’s Spirit hovered over the waters. He still does. When Jesus says “peace,” it’s not passive. It’s powerful.

The Hebrew word Shalom means to destroy the authority that binds to chaos.

Let that sink in.

You’re not just called to withstand chaos. You’re anointed to bring order and peace where there is none. You are a glory carrier. A walking temple of the Living God.

You are the Ark of His Presence in the earth today.

Take Heart, Take Authority

Don’t shrink back. Don’t let the storm define your story. Jesus already overcame it. You’re seated in heavenly places. Called, chosen, filled with power from on high. You may not be jumping from a moving car, but maybe today God is calling you to:

  • Speak the truth in love.
  • Forgive someone who hurt you.
  • Bring coffee to a friend in need.
  • Share your testimony.
  • Take the next small step of faith.

Whatever it is—step out. Jesus is already on the water, waiting.

A Prayer of Response

“Lord, I am grateful that You still have all the power in heaven and on earth. I enthrone You right now in my life, focusing on the truth of Your Word. You are mighty to save. I repent for any doubt, and I receive by faith the triumph of the cross and resurrection. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I surrender my spirit, soul, and body—my heart, mind, and will. Show me where the chaos is. Show me how to bring Your creation glory into it. Establish me in Your truth. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.”

You Are His Witness

You’ve been called not to comfort, but to glory.

The Holy Spirit in you is still hovering over the waters—ready to bring life where there was chaos.

Don’t let fear write your story. When the waves rise, when the fire blazes, remember:

He is with you. You are not alone. You are His witness.
