We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ, being ready to punish every act of disobedience, when your own obedience [as a church] is complete.
2 Corinthians 10:5
We build trust in someone over time in any relationship. There can be times when a person does something that affects the amount of trust we have for them. Your trust is built up when a person shows you their faithfulness and is a safe place for you to come as you are. However, your trust can be torn down when someone goes back on their word, or makes you feel unsafe.
Let’s talk about your relationship with the Lord.
Can you Trust Him?
Is He trustworthy? Is He a safe place for you to bring yourself as you are? Psalm 118:8 says, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.” Isaiah 26:3-4 says, “You keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 says, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
Is He a safe place for you to bring yourself as you are? Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our safe place and our strength. He is always our help when we are in trouble.”
Have you ever felt let down by God? Maybe a family member died unexpectedly. Or maybe you are in jeopardy of losing your job. Maybe you have been crying out to the Lord for healing, and you haven’t received it yet. It is ok to feel this way! I have been there myself many times. But it is unhealthy to stay in that place, and God wants to show you how you can leave the place of disappointment. Holy Spirit is inviting you back to the place where the disappointment began, and He wants you to give Him all that you are feeling about it with honesty. After you have poured out your soul to Him, ask Him to show you any lies about your relationship with Him that you have been believing. Ask Holy Spirit if there are any lies you have believed about Him being safe, someone that you can trust.
Return the Lies to Sender
When God exposes the lies, return them to their sender. And do not accept any more packages from Satan, the father of lies. In the Amplified translation Proverbs 3:5-6 says this, “Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, and He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].”
In the Passion translation, here is what it says, “Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go.”
And because you know I love looking at verses in the Bible with many lenses (translations) to get a wider view on what God is saying, here is what it says in the Message translation, “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over. But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline; don’t sulk under his loving correction. It’s the child he loves that God corrects; a father’s delight is behind all this.”
God is the most trustworthy person on the planet! Trust Him and do it afraid. Ask for Him to help you to trust Him again.
Prayer
God, I want to trust you, but I am hesitant because of certain things that have happened in my life or ways that I have felt let down. Help me to give all of myself to you and develop a trust in you that will keep me strong during life’s difficulties. Show me the packages, the lies that I’ve received from the enemy. And give me the courage and strength and wisdom to return all of those lies to their sender. And help me to receive the truth that is a gift from You. I receive all of your truth Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
