What if the very place of your pain could become the platform for your triumph? In the Season 1 finale of You Are My Witnesses, I open up about my journey through PTSD and brain injury after a traumatic car accident, and how the Lord didn’t just rescue me from the pain—He walked me through it. This episode is an invitation into the refining fire of God’s grace, where suffering is transformed, healing is activated, and authority in Christ is restored. If you’ve ever asked, “Can I really be whole again?”—you’re not alone, and there is real hope.
The Pain That Resurfaces

Two years after my car accident, I began experiencing severe PTSD symptoms (listen to episode 7). My body would panic at the sound of acceleration, triggering flashbacks that made me feel completely helpless. I couldn’t pray it away. I couldn’t ignore it either. But God led me to a neurodevelopmental therapist who helped me retrain my brain and release stored trauma. This healing journey wasn’t just emotional—it was neurological and spiritual.
The Brain and Trauma

Our brains are wired with neural pathways that can become stuck in loops after trauma. PTSD affects the amygdala (fight/flight/freeze), the hippocampus (memory), and the prefrontal cortex (logic and decision-making). When triggered, the brain doesn’t know the difference between memory and reality. But here’s the beautiful truth: God designed our brains to heal. It’s called neuroplasticity, and it means we’re never truly stuck.

Grace Over Striving

In 2023, while writing my devotional Now My Eyes See You, the trauma crept back in. Sleepless nights and mounting anxiety made me feel like I had failed. But then God whispered:
“Janell, your healing will not depend on your works. It is now dependent on My grace.”
That revelation lifted the pressure and invited me to receive healing through His power, not my performance. The same is true for you. Healing comes to us through God’s finished work, therefore it’s something to be received by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
A Front Row Encounter

Right before a flight that triggered intense fear, I went to a women’s night at church. I usually sit in the back—but that night, I followed the nudge to the front row. As the worship team sang It Is Well, I had a powerful encounter with God.
I knew that healing was happening—emotionally, neurologically, and spiritually. God was rewiring my brain and restoring my soul.
God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], a very present and well-proved help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains be shaken and slip into the heart of the seas, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its roaring.
Psalm 46:1-3 AMP
Truth for the Shaken Soul

Friend, even when everything around you is shaking, Christ in you is the unshakable hope of glory. The rescue may not look like immediate relief. Sometimes it looks like transformation in the fire. But you are not powerless. You are not alone. Jesus lives in you, and He’s given you authority to overcome. Declare this daily: “It is well with my soul.” Also, click the button below to grab your free daily declarations pdf. This is great for you to print off and stick to your bathroom mirror, inside your car, or wherever you need a reminder.
Now My Eyes See You

If this story has stirred something in you, I invite you to go deeper with my devotional Now My Eyes See You. In it, I share how suffering, though disorienting, can become the place where we encounter God’s redeeming presence. Like Job, we are not alone in the ashes. Jesus steps in and leads us into healing. The devotional is available on Amazon in all formats. And I’ve created a free Bible study to accompany it, available at www.janellkremer.com.
